    From a post on Calcgames.org:

So some of you might know I’m a photography nut, and that I deal solely with digital. I’ve developed under five medium format cards in my life, so you can see where my true loyalties lie.

However, about six months ago we found a suitcase in our basement that contained my great-grandfathers photography equipment, sans camera. It it was a Nikkor 105mm f/2.5; Spiratone 28mm f/2.8; Soligor 300mm f/5.5 and a Kodak Micro-Bellows, among other parts including a remote shutter wire, right angle finder, and some filters. These are all F-mount Nikon equipment, all manual.

Yesterday, after arriving home from work, my aunt called me over and told me she found a old camera, and since I was interested in such things, if I wanted it. So it turns it that is indeed the missing camera. It’s a Nikkormat FTn, and came with a Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 and Nikkor 135mm f/2.8. What’s really cool is there is also a 2x tele-extender, so that 300mm is now a 600mm f/11. I still need to locate a battery for the light meter, it used Mercury 1.33v before, and as we all know those are quite illegal. :) It seems they use regular Zinc-Air hearing aid batteries with minor modifications, and hopefully I can occupy myself for a week or two with this classic camera. I especially look forward to micro work. There’s also a flash that I’ll use with my 350D for bounce fill effects.

Oh, and in case you didn’t already know: I’ve been a Canon user all my life and truly believe they make the best photographic equipment today. When this Nikkormat was made, however, I think Nikon was still the superior brand.
