3 Things… including trolls.

Well, I know this is rather late, but Marry Christmas to everyone (I know, I know, I’m an atheist). I must admit I find it rather amusing that somehow “Happy Holidays” is under fire from the religious right, I don’t understand their reason for this either, so I’ve decided to just use “Mappy Holimas” as a nice compromise.

Speaking of Christmas, besides the 200mm f/4L I got a few weeks ago, I also received money to purchase a 50mm f/1.8 and replacement earbuds for the ones I lost last summer, and got other such assorted items. My next spending target, is money to supplement the $250 my parents appropriated for computer equipment. Some of that will go to a new case (Mid-tower), but most will go to twin Seagate 300GB SATA drives and a RAID controller card, so I’d have an extra 300GB of storage for backup purposes, and even if one drive goes bad (unlikely, they have 5 year warranty’s), the other will be mirrored. For you tech nerds out there, I’m setting up RAID 1.

Also, I have a few things I’d like to say, if I may.

  • First off, I went and saw The Producers with Katy tonight, and I just want to mention that yes, I did know Will Farrell, I did think the Nazi looked familiar throughout the musical, and yes, I did make the connection during the ending number.
  • Second off, I did wrap her present with staples, mainly because that was the first sealing device I could find.
  • And thirdly, I did get a 90’s troll that’s holding a camera and sign that claims “In Soviet Russia, trolls gift you!”

And that’s all for now.

Best quote… ever.

DragonflyBlade21: A woman has a close male friend. This means that he is probably interested in her, which is why he hangs around so much. She sees him strictly as a friend. This always starts out with, you’re a great guy, but I don’t like you in that way. This is roughly the equivalent for the guy of going to a job interview and the company saying, You have a great resume, you have all the qualifications we are looking for, but we’re not going to hire you. We will, however, use your resume as the basis for comparison for all other applicants. But, we’re going to hire somebody who is far less qualified and is probably an alcoholic. And if he doesn’t work out, we’ll hire somebody else, but still not you. In fact, we will never hire you. But we will call you from time to time to complain about the person that we hired.

Germs and Glass

Well, hello everyone, I’m staying home tonight, mainly due to the fact my body is being besieged by some virus, which is rather rare, I’m usually not this sick. I’m sure staying up the entire last week (including until 3 last Saturday night) didn’t help matters, but it was worth it, all the same.

Anyway, my Canon 70-200mm F/4L lens came in on Thursday, and all I have to say is that’s amazing. The optical (and build) quality are simply amazing, not to mention the USM zoom. Quite the upgrade from a DC EF-S 18-55 (Kit lens, maybe $100), to this beast ($684 with UV and polarising filters). I’ve been playing with this when I can, and you should see more pictures coming from this when I get better. Now this is how a (D)SLR is truly supposed to be, a lens that is superior to the camera body. So I’m happy about that. It can be handheld (and I’ve used it as such), but for any type of exposure slower than 1/40th of a second I use a tripod, the optical quality is worth it. Anyway, I guess they’re right, once you go L (Canon Professional Series), you never go back to anything less (*gulp* on the wallet). I certainly hope this isn’t mono…

Lens ‘n Friends

So after a great night on Saturday (“No Comment”). My parents woke me up at 10:53 (I went to bed at 2:31) with the news that they suddenly changed their minds and decided to get me camera stuff for christmas, and I could order today and use when it arrives. So I got the Canon 70-200 f/4L USM lens, a 67mm HV filter, 67mm Circular Polorizing Filter and the Remote Control RC-1 (for self timer and blub exposures). Total cost: $697 (672 after mail in rebate). I paid about 60 of my own money to suppliment for the filters and such. So it’s a good weekend, except for these Shakespeare essays.

On a related note, I like the following review about the lens, it’s highly amusing.

First off, all of you clowns that are writing something like “F4 too slow” in the “cons” field should be slapped. It’s not like it’s not WRITTEN ON THE BOX. That’s about as idiotic as saying “con- doesn’t fit in my pocket.”That said, this lens does exactly what they say it’ll do and it does it very well. Big long zoom? Check. High quality pictures? Check. f2.8? Nope. Because it’s an f4! *slap* Fast focus? Check. Smooth zoom? Check. f2.8? Still not, it’s still an f4, just like it says on the box! *slap*
